Dear Family and Friends: Sept.
8, 2011
Last weekend we had a great conference in Johannesburg, S. Africa. There were
twenty five pastors there on Sat. and the picture on the forwarded email below is
the Sunday group in front of the tent we purchased for Bro. John Lukusa two years
ago. He has founded a church in the nearby gov't housing addition and has his four
children leading the praise and worship who were very talented. The nations represented
in addition to S. Africa were: Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Botswana. There
was a good response to our new discipleship emphasis and many good comments were
heard about the teaching. I believe our South Africa group will really take off now
that we have had a conference here.
Janice and I have been in Cape Town since Mon.
vacationing and this is such a spectacular place to see!!!! Much to our surprise
a good pastor friend of our host pastor is a chauffeur for tour groups here and he
volunteered to be our personal guide for the week!!!!!! We are so used to giving
to the Africans; this was an unexpected treat we will never forget. He even chauffeured
for Queen Elizabeth when she visited Cape Town a few years ago. On Mon. he took us
up on famous Table Rock Mountain on a cable car with an awesome view 3,000 ft. above
this city of 3.5 million. On Tues. we went to the Cape of Good Hope and saw wild
ostriches, baboons and penguins. The view was stunning of the surf on the rocks 1,000
ft. below with emerald water near the beaches. It was rainy on Thurs. so we went
to the aquarium and saw some very fancy shopping centers. The U.S. has nothing over
this area for modern conveniences, so this is a very different part of Africa we
don't usually see. Then Thurs. evening we had a nice treat as the wife of the Minister
of Commerce for S. Africa is a good friend of our driver. She hosted us in their
gov't mansion near the vineyard area of Cape Town. She was very gracious and is coming
to our conference as well. We learned so much from her about the apartheid years
in S. Africa as her husband was an activist that opposed the treatment of the blacks
and helped end the practice in the mid-nineties. He is white "African" while she
is black, so they were a great couple to speak for equality.
Today we just returned
from a great white shark cage diving trip which was very exciting as we had sharks
coming to our boat side for over three hours. We even got to see a shark catch a
seal near the rock island where thousands of them call home. So after braving "jaws"
we are now ready for our Cape Town conference to begin tomorrow.
The pastors here
seem very excited we are here so pray we can touch this area with a spark of revival
too.
In His matchless grace, Ron and Janice
